A magpie I am, A magpie I’ll always be
Not as glorious as an eagle, nor as enigmatic like a raven
I am small
I am mediocre
Nothing special, just a small bird in the background
But this magpie O’ dear!! Has loved you for years
But you’ll never know, why?
Because I am a nobody I say!!
But this magpie had fallen
Found its most precious enchantment
Like the magpie attached to gold I am attached to you
Like the magpie that indiscriminately collects gold I collect memories of you
But the magpie knows it can only collect so little and not all
Like I know I could only harbor a little and not all of you
But like the magpie who can never stop trying
I try to make the most of my time with you
Even though I know it would only hurt me in the end
One day a magnificent eagle might swipe you off your feet
Or a mysterious raven you might fancy might come along
‘Til then I promise to protect you and stay by your side
But when time comes you find your lover
I’ll back away like a cowardly nobody
Because a magpie I am, a magpie I’ll always be
