I was created for freedom
I was created for peace
In a temple full of wisdom
I came from the lineage of Greece
I was a symbol for moderation
My students shower me with adoration
I made a place of safety and inclusion
For every Jew, Pagan and Christian in my institution
But such has become of the woman of beauty and grace
Suffered in the hands of Christian faith
I could’ve done so much more
If I wasn’t accused of being a whore
My existence was a symbol of unity
Which was envied by Christians of impunity
I was murdered by goons without restraint
While their leader was hailed as a saint
Hail me O universe!
You sent for me to bring light!
But you let me die before twilight!
My name was forgotten
And left the world in uncertain
My death was the end of enlightenment
Thus began the dark ages of torment
Such was the life of Hypatia
The last Pagan of Alexandria
